“Designer” wedding courtesy of Wallpaper. I rarely get wedding envy but this one is pretty unique. See the couple’s website, a collaborative “wedding for today, tomorrow and design” here. A sneak peek:
“It all started in August 2007 when the Alvar Aalto Design Seminar brought together a group of people in the field of design: designers, manufacturers and researchers around the world. The two-day event organised by Alvar Aalto Academy in Jyvaskyka saw the participants discuss their own creative work under the theme It’s a Beautiful Day … it is an optimistic, forward-looking call for all people and communities to make a difference to the prevailing trends, make the world more sustainable and beautiful using the means they have at their disposal. We can make a difference through our attitudes, willingness to change and professional skills. Each day, over and over, we all make that choice…
The seminar days, with all the thoughts raised and meetings engaged in, the setting designed by Alvar Aalto and the Finnish summer and nature all around inspired Dai Fujiwara of Japan to propose another Beautiful Day, a multi-creative joint project between different cultures.
At the end of his speech, Fujiwara made a surprising announcement: he and his team [of Issey Miyake] promised to design wedding costumes for a Finnish couple to be married at the end of the year. He then suggested that all the keynote speakers of the seminar come together to contribute to the wedding under the theme It’s a Beautiful Day.”
I just think that’s … well, beautiful.
